Information for applicants
Please read the following information before your interview or other assessment process.
You must provide documentation to confirm your identity, qualifications and right to work in the UK when you attend for interview or assessment. We list the required documents below.
Arrangements for your interview or assessment
We will shortlist applicants after the closing date and email you with the outcome of your application.
If we have shortlisted you we will contact you to make the arrangements for the next stage of the selection process, which may be an interview and/or an assessment exercise. You must respond to confirm whether you will be attending.
We will also tell you how to contact us to request any reasonable adjustments you may require that will enable you to participate fully in the selection process.
You can log into your recruitment account at any time to view the progress of your application and the details of your interview or assessment.
Documents to bring to your interview or assessment
Please ensure that you bring original documents from each of the categories below. We will take copies of your documents for our records and return them to you on the day.
We will use the information you provide only in relation to your job application. Read our external job applicants privacy notice to find out more about how we use your data.
Proof of date of birth
Please bring one of the following documents:
- a valid passport
- birth certificate (full birth or adoption certificate which includes the names(s) of at least one of the holder's parents)
- driving licence photocard (NB this is not acceptable as proof of right to work in the UK)
Proof of right to work in the UK
To comply with the Asylum and Immigration Act all applicants for all jobs must prove their eligibility to work in the UK, whether continuous or time limited.
You must provide original documents, or combination of documents, from either List A or List B. Please refer to the lists below under Evidence of right to work in the UK: required documents.
Proof of relevant qualifications
You must bring proof that you have attained any qualifications that are deemed to be essential or desirable for the post. The job description will specify which qualifications are required for the role.
Professional registrations
If the post requires a current registration of a professional body you must bring proof of your membership.
Evidence of right to work in the UK: required documents
List A
Acceptable documents to show continuous right to work in the UK are:
- A passport (current or expired) showing the holder is a British citizen or a citizen of the UK and Colonies having the right of abode in the UK.
- A passport or passport card (current or expired) showing that the holder is an Irish citizen.
- A document issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey or the Isle of Man, which has been verified as valid by the Home Office Employer Checking Service, showing that the holder has been granted unlimited leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU to the Jersey Immigration Rules, Appendix EU to the Immigration (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Rules 2008 or Appendix EU to the Isle of Man Immigration Rules.
- A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is exempt from immigration control, is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, has the right of abode in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK.
- A current Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office to the holder with an endorsement indicating that the named person is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK or has no time limit on their stay in the UK, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
- A birth or adoption certificate (short or long) issued in the UK, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
- A birth or adoption certificate issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
- A certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
List B
Acceptable documents to show time limited right to work in the UK are:
Group 1
- A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is allowed to stay in the UK and is currently allowed to do the type of work in question.
- A document issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey or the Isle of Man, which has been verified as valid by the Home Office Employer Checking Service, showing that the holder has been granted limited leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU to the Jersey Immigration Rules, Appendix EU to the Immigration (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Rules 2008 or Appendix EU to the Isle of Man Immigration Rules.
- A current immigration status document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a government agency or a previous employer.
Group 2
- A document issued by the Home Office showing that the holder has made an application for leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU to the immigration rules (known as the EU Settlement Scheme) on or before 30 June 2021 together with a Positive Verification Notice from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
- A Certificate of Application (non-digital) issued by the Home Office showing that the holder has made an application for leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU to the immigration rules (known as the EU Settlement Scheme), on or after 1 July 2021, together with a Positive Verification Notice from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
- A document issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey or the Isle of Man showing that the holder has made an application for leave to enter or remain under Appendix EU(J) to the Jersey Immigration Rules or Appendix EU to the Immigration Rules (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Rules 2008, or Appendix EU to the Isle of Man Immigration Rules together with a Positive Verification Notice from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
- An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office stating that the holder is permitted to take the employment in question, together with a Positive Verification Notice from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
- A Positive Verification Notice issued by the Home Office Employer Checking Service to the employer or prospective employer, which indicates that the named person may stay in the UK and is permitted to do the work in question.
