Housing

Our housing team plays a vital role in creating sustainable communities through regeneration, housing growth, and resident engagement and involvement.

Our Housing Strategy 2022 to 2027 sets out the city’s housing ambitions, in the context of a growing population in Leeds and an evolving policy framework. We work in close collaboration with housing sector partners in the city to deliver our priorities, both strategic and operational.

We have an important role providing tenancy and property related services for council tenants and leaseholders, private rented sector tenants and homeowners.

Through Housing Leeds we manage lettings and allocations of council properties and all aspects of council tenancies. We manage rent collection, support our tenants to maintain their tenancies successfully, and oversee maintenance of homes and housing estates. We engage with tenants and residents to help shape council housing services and build stronger communities.

We are committed to providing housing that meets people’s specific needs, including our older people's (Retirement LIFE) housing. Our Independent Living Service enables disabled people to apply for adaptations for their home or for help and support to move to more suitable accommodation according to their medical needs.

Our Housing Options team provide statutory homelessness and housing advice, supporting people in many different circumstances with their housing needs, and working with agencies across the city to prevent homelessness and reduce rough sleeping. Our work with the Gypsy and Travellers community includes the provision of 2 permanent sites.

To help shape our council housing services we are continually engaging with our tenants and residents and are working on the delivery of an annual capital investment programme to council homes.

We have opportunities in our service for compassionate, customer-focused people who want to make a difference in our communities and promote a quality living environment for all.

Our colleagues say:

Nigel, Technical Officer

"The job is so diverse, and no two days are ever the same. I’m encouraged to innovate and try out different products, ideas, and techniques which means I build on my skills as a surveyor and learn something new every day I come to work.”

Paul, Housing Manager

“In Housing Leeds we really do put customers at the heart of what we do. We have a strong team ethos and together really do change lives, from offering new housing to helping families become debt free. I can see how much of a difference we are making across our communities.”
