About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Upper Key Stage 2 team, working with pupils in Years 5 and 6. As an Upper KS2 Teaching Assistant at Clapgate, you will play a key role in supporting pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary school. You will be confident in supporting and delivering interventions in reading, writing, and mathematics, helping pupils to make strong progress and reach their full potential. A willingness to contribute to outdoor learning opportunities and wider school life is essential, along with the flexibility to cover classes in the absence of the class teacher when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver targeted interventions, including preparation for SATs, to support pupils in reaching expected and greater depth standards.
  • Help maintain a purposeful, engaging, and well-organised learning environment that supports high standards of behaviour and achievement.
  • Promote pupils’ communication, reasoning, and problem-solving skills through effective questioning and high-quality interactions.
  • Support pupils’ personal, social, and emotional development, modelling positive behaviour and attitudes to learning.

  • Prepare and organise learning resources to support high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum.
  • Contribute to wider school life, including enrichment opportunities and outdoor learning where appropriate.
  • Provide classroom cover in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Work collaboratively with the Upper Key Stage 2 team to support planning, delivery, and reflective practice.
  • Safeguard and protect all pupils, following school policies and reporting any concerns promptly and appropriately.

Other Duties:

  • Comply with all school policies including safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and training.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working with children.
  • Secure literacy and numeracy skills up to the end of Key Stage 2.

  • Knowledgeable about SATs and able to support pupils through targeted preparation and intervention.
  • Able to engage and motivate pupils as active, independent learners.
  • Skilled in behaviour management and able to maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment with high expectations.
  • Empathetic, patient, and responsive to individual needs, building strong and respectful relationships with pupils.
  • Confident in delivering interventions in reading, writing, and mathematics to support progress and attainment.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and proactive in their own professional development.
  • Reflective and observant, able to provide clear feedback on pupil progress and identify misconceptions.
  • Passionate about outdoor learning and enriching the curriculum beyond the classroom.
  • Brings energy, initiative, and enthusiasm to the wider school community.
  • Promotes high-quality oracy, encouraging pupils to communicate confidently and effectively.
  • Takes a creative and adaptable approach to supporting teaching and learning.
