Introduction to the role of the team:
Working within Leeds City Venues alongside programming and operational teams, the candidate will be responsible for the supervision of a small team of permanent and casual technicians.
Your role
To help manage and develop technical operations, ensuring the highest standards of technical provision and providing support and satisfaction for users of the Council’s public performance venues. You will be required to work across the portfolio of venues, currently Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre, and Pudsey Civic Hall, along with any additional venues in the future.
Currently this post is based at the Carriageworks Theatre.
Responsibilities
- To provide full audio, lighting, stage and audio-visual support for performances and events including safe rigging, de-rigging and operation of audio, lighting, staging and video equipment throughout Leeds CC venues.
- To be responsible for the supervision of all technical staff and technical activities within LCC venues.
- To provide technical and artistic support both within the Arts, Events & Venues service, and throughout LCC. To provide the same for all professional and amateur companies, commercial and other ad hoc users of LCC venues.
- To work closely with the Operational Team and other Arts, Events & Venues Teams, to assist in the preparation of all areas for meetings, conferences, and events.
- To adhere to all relevant current legislation and to undertake the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s Policies e.g. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Green Strategy, Health & Safety Legislation, etc.
As team leader (supervisor) you will be supportive and ambitious with excellent organisational skills. You will be a confident communicator with a can-do approach.

Responsibilities
To provide full audio, lighting, stage and audio-visual support for performances and events including safe rigging, de-rigging and operation of audio, lighting, staging and video equipment.
To be responsible for the supervision of all technical staff and technical activities within LCC venues and to assist the Technical Manager in the recruitment and training of technical team members.
Assisting the Technical Manager in the specification, sourcing and procurement of technical equipment, helping to ensure that all venues and performance spaces are equipped to a high standard that meets and exceeds user requirement.
To provide technical and artistic support both within the Arts, Events & Venues service, and throughout LCC. To provide the same for all professional and amateur companies, commercial and other ad hoc users of LCC venues.
To be the deputy technical contact for visiting companies and to help ensure the smooth running of fit ups, get outs and performances, in line with both visiting company requirements and the relevant health and safety legislation.
To monitor the safety and suitability of properties, sets and equipment in order to ensure that they meet the relevant safety standards.
To ensure the needs of the venues and its users are met by assisting the Technical Manager in maintaining an efficient rota system of adequate technical cover.
To assist the Technical Manager in the planning and execution of workplace, electrical and lifting equipment inspections, conforming to all relevant health and safety and legislative requirements.
To assist the Technical Manager in conducting and reviewing risk assessments and method statements for all technical workplace areas within LCC venues and to advise on best practice.
To work closely with the Operational Team and other Arts, Events & Venues Teams, to assist in the preparation of all areas for meetings and conferences and functions.
Act as Duty Technical Manager, including weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays as requested.
To adhere to all relevant current legislation and to undertake the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s Policies e.g. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Green Strategy, Health & Safety Legislation, etc.
To carry out any other ad hoc duties that may reasonably be expected of the post.
Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
Participate in appraisal, training, and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.
Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and appropriate CPD programmes.
Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.

Qualifications
A good standard of basic education i.e. GCSE Maths & English
‘A’ Levels – preferred
Technical Theatre qualification preferred or relevant technical qualification or suitable level of working experience
Minimum 4 years’ experience in venue technician role
Personal Specification

Essential requirements
It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post within the context of the specific role duties and responsibilities:
Knowledge required
A high standard of theatre lighting design, rigging & operation of ETC Ion console for multiple disciplines including musical theatre.
A good broad knowledge of venue audio systems including, rigging and operation.
A good knowledge of theatre flying systems.
Knowledge of stage management in a theatre / venue setting.
A good knowledge of AV systems.
Experience required
Relevant technical experience working in a theatre environment
Experience of carrying out basic electrical maintenance and testing
Experience of working collaboratively with non-professional theatre users
Skills required
Able to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel etc)

Desirable requirements

Desirable skills
Design and operation of LX for theatre, musical theatre, dance, & corporate events
Design and operation of audio for theatrical / musical productions pref. using Allen & Heath Avensis console (or similar)
Operation of hemp flying system
Confident AV knowledge including hybrid meeting, live event streaming, video and sound editing.
Desirable experience
Supervisory or managerial experience in a similar role
IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification
