Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. 

Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16-25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment. 

Our main eligibility criteria are that: they want to progress to paid work. They have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan); are autistic and/or  have mild to moderate learning difficulties or other support needs.

We have exceedingly high success rates in terms of helping students move into employment or specialist training and, in February 2023, our Ofsted rating was Good, scoring Good in two categories and Outstanding in two categories.

Our principle programmes are:

Pre-internship: this lasts for 10 months and is primarily based on our college site, but includes regular trips and business visits, as well as inviting external business speakers in

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 days a week on site with a major local employer

Principle Responsibilities

  • The Job Coach will support all aspects of the learner’s journey on a Supported internship including preparing and working with employers, liaising with parents and carers where appropriate and supporting the young person through each stage of the programme.  
  • Plan and deliver high quality innovative and engaging sessions and Employability workshops to ensure the interns wider understanding of the work of work is embedded throughout and cover other sessions as required. 
  • Ensure interns gain confidence, feels valued and builds self-esteem as well as developing work-based skills.  
  • Collaborate with SENCO and wider colleagues to set, monitor, review and record progress at all times for each intern against personal, EHCP and work-based targets on LFT based systems as required.
  • Develop wider independence skills for the interns to ensure they can lead fulfilled lives e.g. travel training, banking and finance, social events and social groups, health and well-being and self-advocacy. 
  • Provide and coordinate support in the workplace to enable them to be successful in their individual roles including responsibility of planning and delivering inspiration days and induction activities.  
  • Develop positive relationships with employers including work buddies and support them to work successfully with each intern and help them build confidence in their daily interactions with interns. 
  • Ensure each intern has highest chance of employment through liaison with the host employer and other employers to secure 
  • paid work for each intern. 
  • Ensure students are always safe through appropriate risk assessments and always following safeguarding procedures 
  • and policies - including recording and monitoring attendance in a timely manner. 
  • Always deliver all the above to the highest standards and have regard to the Supported Intern Quality Assurance Framework which will be used to measure quality. 
  • Liaise with external agencies and partners as appropriate and in a professional manner.  
  • Professionally represent LFT at events, conferences, exhibitions and meetings to contribute to the ongoing positive reputation of the college.
  • Always have very high regard for the interns, seeing their strengths and talents and be ambitious for their futures. 
  • Complete relevant paperwork to ensure the students placement runs as effectively and efficiently as possible throughout their internship e.g. risk assessments, IPRA, PEEPs, support plans, employer induction/on boarding paperwork. 
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with employers, external agencies and colleagues  
  • Represent Supported Internships at events and meetings when required and promote within your allocated employer site. 
  • And any other duties that may be required to help drive forward the vision of Lighthouse Futures Trust and ensure that students remain at the forefront.
