We are looking for a teacher to join an experienced and enthusiastic team of staff supporting a small group of either KS2/3 or 4 pupils with complex educational needs.
This role includes:
- Planning, teaching, and assessing learning in an imaginative curriculum.
- Working with a support team of knowledgeable and committed colleagues.
- Enhancing pupils’ communication skills.
- Promoting pupils’ self-esteem, independence, and participation within the school and local community.

Job Purpose:
- To work with the SLT to meet the educational needs of St John’s pupils.
- To create, develop and maintain a high-quality teaching and learning environment for the pupils.
- To contribute to the discussion of the school’s aims and policies and participate in the implementation of policies, plans, targets, and practices.
Curriculum Provision
- Following the National Curriculum programmes of study, deliver the curriculum in a designated class of pupils with complex special needs ensuring the curriculum is broad, balanced and suitably differentiated to suit the needs of the pupils.
- Plan challenging teaching and learning objectives to evaluate and adjust lessons / work plans as appropriate.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress targets.
- Delivery of the curriculum, which includes planning and preparing schemes of work and lessons appropriate to the needs of SEN pupils.
- Maintain good order, safety and discipline in the classrooms, in accordance with the school’s procedures.
- Prepare and update teaching materials.
Management Information
- Working with colleagues to assess record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils in line with departmental and whole school policies.
- Writing subject reports in accordance with school guidelines.
- To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students.
Working with colleagues
- Ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support by working closely with Learning Support Assistants
- Regular attendance at and participation in staff meetings and other meetings as required
Pastoral Duties of a Form Teacher
- Promote the pastoral care and well-being of pupils in ways that reflect the Catholic ethos of the school.
- Register pupil attendance in accordance with school procedures.
- Alert the appropriate staff to the problems experienced by pupils and to make recommendations as to how these may be resolved.
- Communicate as appropriate with pupils’ parents/ carers and with persons or bodies concerned with the welfare of individual pupils, after consultation with the appropriate staff.
- Contribute to PSHE according to school policy.
- Apply the school’s behavior management policies so that effective learning can take place.
- Supporting pupils’ organisation, eg homework, equipment, timetables.
- Contributing to annual reviews and drawing up individual education plans.
- Attending and preparing for Collective Worship with form group.
Continuing Professional Development
- Take part in the school’s professional development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and development.
- Engage actively in the school’s performance management process
Other
- Maintain professional and personal integrity in accordance with the Teachers’ Standards.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school-related matters and to prevent the disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.
- Undertake any duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required by the Head teacher or Governors.
- Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other staff and external agencies.
- Play a full part in the life of the school community, supporting the ethos, rules, and regulations.
