The Role

We are seeking an inspirational, committed, and highly motivated professional to lead and manage our SEND provision. This fully out-of-class role enables the successful candidate to focus on strategic leadership, provision development, and supporting pupils, staff, and families effectively. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Strategy: Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policy and advising on the graduated approach to SEND support.
  • Resource Management: Advising on the deployment of the school’s delegated budget and resources to meet pupil needs.
  • Statutory Duties: Completing relevant paperwork, including EHC Plans and Other Funding
  • Collaboration: Acting as the key point of contact for external agencies, local authorities, parents, carers, and health and social care professionals.
  • Safeguarding: Fulfilling the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Designated Teacher for Looked After Children (CLA).
  • Teaching & Mentoring: Modelling effective teaching, coaching colleagues, and identifying high-quality adaptive teaching approaches for pupils with SEND.

The Person Specification

We are looking for a professional who demonstrates a caring and nurturing attitude while maintaining high expectations for themselves and others.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with successful primary teaching experience.
  • Hold the National Award for SEN Co-ordination or be willing to undertake the NPQ for SENCOs.
  • A sound understanding of the 2014 SEND Code of Practice and current SEND legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • IT literacy, with the ability to use systems such as SIMS and CPOMS. Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in managing budgets.
  • Team Teach or STARS Level 3 Lead Practitioner training.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and leading staff CPD.
