Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. 

Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16-25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment. 

Our main eligibility criteria are that: they want to progress to paid work. They have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan); are autistic and/or  have mild to moderate learning difficulties or other support needs.

We have exceedingly high success rates in terms of helping students move into employment or specialist training and, in February 2023, our Ofsted rating was Good, scoring Good in two categories and Outstanding in two categories.

Our principle programmes are:

Pre-internship: this lasts for 10 months and is primarily based on our college site, but includes regular trips and business visits, as well as inviting external business speakers in

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 days a week on site with a major local employer

Principle Responsibilities

  • Design, plan and deliver an exciting and highly innovative curriculum centred around employability and skill development, ensuring the interns wider understanding of the work of work is embedded throughout. 
  • Support all aspects of the learner’s journey on a Pre-internship including preparing and working with employers or external agencies, liaising with parents and carers on a regular basis and supporting the young person through each stage of the programme. 
  • Lead a key aspect of the curriculum, developing, planning and collaborating with wider Pre-team for successful facilitation eg, PAES, Work Related Learning ensuring successful delivery by all as well as reviewing and developing further.  
  • Ensure interns gain confidence, feel valued and build self-esteem as well as develop work-based skills through daily interactions and delivery of programme 
  • Set, monitor, review and record progress on a regular basis for each intern against personal, EHCP and work-based targets on LFT based systems as required, including PAES assessment.  
  • Develop wider independence skills for the interns to ensure they can lead fulfilled lives eg travel training, banking and finance, social events and social groups, health and well-being and self-advocacy. 
  • Develop key relationships with employers and external organisations to provide access to employer sites, visits and coordinate a schedule to attend, including our Supported Intern sites.  
  • Act as Educational Visit Lead when coordinating and planning offsite trips and visits and ensure all risk assessments for any off-college site visit is completed and signed off. Collaborating with the Safeguarding and Equity Lead.  
  • Collaborate with the wider Pre-Intern team and core curriculum staff to design and plan termly expeditions and ensure that this is facilitated successfully and embedded throughout all aspects of the programme, with support from Job Coach Assistant.  
  • Develop positive relationships with all interns including parents/ carers and communicate on a weekly basis, ensuring that progress is shared and where appropriate support is given to also build relationships with parents and carers.  
  • Complete relevant paperwork to ensure the programme runs as effectively and efficiently as possible throughout their pre-internship e.g. risk assessments, IPRA, PEEPs, support plans and development plans 
  • Support Assistants to work successfully with each intern and help them build confidence in their daily interactions, including facilitating any intervention. 
  • Ensure each intern has access to a wide range of opportunities through liaison with employers and impartial career advice and guidance. 
  • Ensure interns are always safe through appropriate risk assessments and always following safeguarding procedures and policies- including recording and monitoring attendance in a timely manner. 
  • Always deliver all the above to the highest standards and have regard to all LFT methods of assessment which will be used to measure quality, this will include observations, session visits etc.  
  • Collaborate with SENCO and wider colleagues to set, monitor, review and record progress at all times for each intern against personal, EHCP and work-based targets on LFT based systems as required. 
  • Liaise with external agencies and partners as appropriate and in a professional manner.  
  • Professionally represent LFT at events, conferences, exhibitions and meetings to contribute to the ongoing positive reputation of the college 
  • Always have very high regard for the interns, seeing their strengths and talents and be ambitious for their futures.
