Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. 

Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16-25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment. 

Our main eligibility criteria are that: they want to progress to paid work. They have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan); are autistic and/or  have mild to moderate learning difficulties or other support needs.

We have exceedingly high success rates in terms of helping students move into employment or specialist training and, in February 2023, our Ofsted rating was Good, scoring Good in two categories and Outstanding in two categories.

Our principle programmes are:

Pre-internship: this lasts for 10 months and is primarily based on our college site, but includes regular trips and business visits, as well as inviting external business speakers in

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 days a week on site with a major local employer

Principle Responsibilities

  • Lead effective delivery of the pre-internship programme and ensure framework is followed by all parties; adhere to the Preparation for Adulthood agenda, ensuring that all interns are making sufficient progress against their assigned outcomes and targets.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to design and develop the second year of the Pre-Internship programme and lead the staff team to embed and deliver.
  • Be the lead Assessor for Occupational Studies in the Workplace and ensure Job Coaches and Assistants are confident in delivery and assessment of relevant qualifications.
  • Build a strong team of Job Coaches and Assistants with the skills and personal attributes required to deliver and drive a personalised and high-quality innovative pre-internship programme for each intern. Support continual improvement on our journey to be ‘Outstanding in all that we do’.
  • Lead and support Job Coaches to plan and deliver high quality innovative and engaging sessions and ensure the interns’ wider understanding of the work of work is embedded throughout.
  • Line-manage Job Coaches and Assistants and support the development of positive relationships with students, ensuring the programme helps to foster self-confidence, develop social and employability skills and increase independence.
  • Run regular meetings with job coach team including regular CPD sessions, in collaboration with wider LFT team.
  • Co-ordinate and provide cover in the workplace or college site as and when required.
  • Ensure programme is tailored to meet the individual needs of interns, supporting them to make progress and successfully transition to adulthood and an ultimate end outcome of employment.
  • Ensure high-quality service delivery, building strong relationships with parents/ carers, external agencies such as other educational establishments, and ultimately, empower all interns to achieve their career goals.
  • Lead in the design and effective implementation and ongoing development of the expeditionary led learning model. Ensure team are effectively embedding model throughout the programme and that progress is monitored.
  • Ensure that each member of the job coach team is successfully supporting all aspects of the learner’s journey on the programme, ensuring the safety of students and that each young person is successfully progressing through the stages of  the programme.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are developed and planned, that curriculum maps are developed and that collaboration with wider Pre-team ensures successful facilitation in areas such as PAES and work-related learning.
  • Support Job Coaches and Assistants to build and maintain strong and positive relationships with existing employers and develop an employer engagement schedule with support from wider team.
  • Ensure Job Coaches are: collaborating with SENCO and other colleagues to set, monitor, review and record progress and interventions against personal, EHCP and work-based targets on LFT based systems as required; setting, monitoring and reviewing targets and completing all logs in a timely fashion; monitoring, tracking and developing pathways for all interns to support preparation for adulthood agenda and other, agreed outcomes.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed to ensure the programme runs as effectively and efficiently as possible throughout their pre-internship e.g. risk assessments, IPRA, PEEPs, support plans and development plans.
  • Lead on reviews of key aspects of the programme such as 

PAES and Employability.

  • Oversee and ensure quality of delivery of all employability and wider curriculum, including alternative provider partnerships and any delivery of programmes to schools and colleges as part of our WOW programme.
  • Ensure the design of the curriculum enables all interns to develop wider independence skills so they can lead fulfilled lives e.g. travel training, banking and finance, social events and social groups, health and well-being and self-advocacy.
  • Ensure all interns are gaining confidence, feel valued and build self-esteem as well as developing work-based skills, including NCFE qualifications.
  • Produce reports for Trustees on student progress, attainment and programme development.
  • Ensure students are always safe through appropriate risk assessments and always following safeguarding procedures and policies, including site risk assessments and relevant documentation as well as all intern risk assessments and monitoring attendance and track intervention.
  • Professionally represent LFT at events, conferences, exhibitions and meetings to contribute to the ongoing positive reputation of the college
  • Always have very high regard for the interns, seeing their strengths and talents and being ambitious for their futures.
  • Any other duties that may be required to help drive forward the vision of Lighthouse Futures Trust and ensure that students remain at the forefront of our work.
