Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16- 25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment.

Our principal programmes are:

Pre-internship: this lasts for 1 to 2 years and is primarily based on our college site but includes regular trips and business visits.

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 to 4 days a week on site with a major local employer.

Branching Out: This is a practical programme which lasts for 10 months and focuses on gardening/landscaping and other hands on roles.

Job Purpose

We are recruiting a new Maths Tutor to join our team, to provide quality first teaching and oversee the innovative planning and implementation of a programme of Maths to maximise student success, achievement, and retention.

Principle Responsibilities

The role includes the following duties:

  • Conduct screening and initial assessments for each student to assess their level of Maths.
  • Regularly meet with students to ensure appropriate ILPs are developed and clearly identify any at risk students to Line Manager and Programme Lead in a timely manner. Respond to any curriculum issues affecting programme delivery and student learning/training activities.  
  • Plan, implement and oversee the curriculum required to support the students to study towards, and successfully achieve, the relevant qualifications in Maths.
  • Proactively plan, support, and intervene to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning and wellbeing of staff and students ensuring teaching and learning is innovative, inspirational and differentiated at all times.
  • Where students have already achieved a GCSE grade 4 and above or equivalent, work with the Employability Job Coach to plan and implement a project that allows them to build upon and strengthen their Maths skills.
