As a Insite Development Officer, you’ll support InSite’s product owner in the day-to-day management of InSite as well as new technical developments to ensure that we continue to support staff in the delivery of the council’s key objectives.

  • Experience managing or developing content for an intranet or internal digital platform
  • Strong digital skills, including CMS experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Understanding of user experience (UX), accessibility, and content design principles
  • Creative thinker who enjoys solving problems and improving services

About the role

As a Insite Development Officer you will:

  • Analyse InSite’s current usage to understand what staff are using and inform how further new content and functionality is developed.
  • Support publishers and end users in getting the best out of InSite, and ensure they are kept up to date regarding new developments and improvements to InSite through on-going quality communications.
  • Quality assure content and provide feedback to content authors and publishers in a confident and persuasive way to ensure the high standards of governance are maintained
  • Receive feedback from staff and make recommendations to the product owner about potential new content and functionality
  • Testing new technical developments to ensure future deployments of InSite meet with infrastructure and testing standards, and retain the quality expected by staff.

Job Description

Job purpose

Support InSite’s product owner in the day-to-day management of InSite as well as new technical developments to ensure that we continue to support staff in the delivery of the council’s key objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of InSite’s current usage to understand what staff are using and inform how further new content and functionality is developed.
  • Support publishers and end users in getting the best out of InSite, and ensure they are kept up to date regarding new developments and improvements to InSite through on-going quality communications.
  • Quality assure content and provide feedback to content authors and publishers in a confident and persuasive way to ensure the high standards of governance are maintained.
  • Receive feedback from staff and make recommendations to the product owner about potential new content and functionality
  • Testing new technical developments to ensure future deployments of InSite meet with infrastructure and testing standards, and retain the quality expected by staff.
  • Work closely with the InSite team to develop online forms.
  • Full end to end testing of new developments.
  • Build positive working relationships with staff at all levels across the council, to ensure that InSite continues to meet the needs of staff and the business.
  • Review SharePoint data and undertake statistical analysis to ensure that content is being viewed by staff and maintained by publishers.
  • Monitor new InSite content, providing timely and supportive feedback to publishers and content authors to assist them in developing quality content.
  • Develop good working relationships with outside agencies and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with managers to ensure effective delivery of the services function.
  • Attend Senior management meetings and undertake induction, training of staff and carry out appraisals as appropriate.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and concepts for new areas of content and functionality.
  • Keep customers informed with regards to InSite developments and improvements and raise the profile of InSite through effective and timely communication and promotional activities.

Qualifications Demonstrating ability in numeracy and literacy or equivalent knowledge is essential. 

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria. Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including sensitive and complex information.
  • Able to prioritise own and team’s work to meet conflicting deadlines and objectives.

  • Able to work in a positive and pro-active manner to ensure that InSite remains a quality product
  • Able to use excellent customer service skills which will be used to provide support to staff
  • Able to prepare information in clear and concise way, following the council’s plain English policy and house style to produce effective InSite content
  • Able to collate and analyse information and statistics from a variety of sources, and present your findings with recommendations
  • Attention to detail to be able to undertake full end to end testing of new software developments
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of accessibility legislation and corporate style best practice to ensure we meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
  • Practical working knowledge and understanding of effective communication techniques and principles
  • Understanding of the council’s objectives and of how InSite underpins these and supports staff.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Experience of using Content Management Software or ability to learn new software packages easily
  • Experience of analysing data from different sources to present findings in a meaningful way
  • Experience of providing customer focussed services.

  • Experience of testing software developments to ensure they meet the predefined requirements and are fully functional
