We have an exciting opportunity for an additional Inclusion and Behaviour Mentor to join our team. This is to support pupils who are struggling to regulate in the classroom and need support to reintegrate. The post may also entail general teaching assistant duties – working within specific classes and supporting the teacher with classroom management and positive behaviour strategies – or supervision of our Inclusion area at specific times of the day.
You will be:
- Educated to GCSE standard with a minimum of grades A*-C or Grade 4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent. i.e., NVQ level 2 or similar
- Able to demonstrate excellent numeracy and literacy skills and standards
- Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative measuring the impact of your actions and how to develop this further to support individuals, or small groups of children
- Trained in positive handling, de-escalation and emotion coaching – or willing to work towards this
- Able to demonstrate relevant experience of working with SEND pupils in a classroom setting
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively support the most vulnerable pupils
- Able to demonstrate experience of working with pupils who need a modified learning environment and firm boundaries to be able to reintegrate them into the classroom
- Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and practice – particularly gathering pupil voice and managing restorative conversations
You will:
- Build constructive working relationships with identified pupils, liaising with parents and other key professionals, attending meetings as required and ensuring pupil action plans are carried out and evaluated
- Become familiar with and utilise a range of classroom strategies and diagnostic assessments to aid learning
- Support pupil learning, attend to pupils’ personal needs and provide general support in managing pupils in the classroom
- Keep accurate, up to date CPOMS records, recording all incidents and Inclusion support daily
- Work in small groups, or 1-1 with specific children in order to help them progress in their learning, or with their emotional literacy skills
- Work with a wider inclusion team in order to support the children you work with to increasingly access mainstream curriculum
- Report any potential child protection issues through to the child protection officer without delay
- Support the Academy in ensuring the safety and welfare of all pupils
- Respond to requests for behaviour support, following school behaviour policy, guiding children to Inclusion Resource when they need this and modelling good practice at all times
- Supervise and support children who are working in internal isolation/internal exclusion; coaching them to meet their learning needs and helping them build learning resilience
- Coach and support lunch time supervisors with behaviour management, support the inclusion manager, organise the staff rota for lunch time cover and maintain positive, regular communication throughout school
- Provide pastoral care when needed - this may include some personal care - and first aid
