Lighthouse Futures Trust is an SPI (Specialist Post-16 Institution) and a registered charity that was established in 2018. Our focus is on supporting young adults, aged 16- 25, to gain the social and employability skills they need to find and sustain paid employment. Our main eligibility criteria are that: they want to progress to paid work; have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan); are autistic and/or have mild to moderate learning difficulties or other support needs. 

National statistics show that just 5.6% of young adults with a learning disability and 16% of those who are autistic actually move into paid employment but as many as 65% want to work but lack the specific support they need. We are relentless in helping our students gain the experience, skills, confidence, and self-esteem that will prepare them for the world of work. We have exceedingly high success rates in terms of helping students move into employment or specialist training and, in February 2023, our Ofsted rating was Good, scoring Good in two categories and Outstanding in two categories. 

Our principle programmes are: 

Pre-internship: this lasts for 10 months and is primarily based on our college site, but includes regular trips and business visits, as well as inviting external business speakers in 

Supported internship: this lasts for 10 months and includes 3 days a week on site with a major local employer and up to 2 days at our college site.

JOB SPECIFICATION: HR GENERALIST

Job Title: HR Generalist

Reports to: Business & Finance Manager 

Terms of Contract: 3 days a week (22.5 hours), Full Year

Pay Scale: £32,000 (FTE). Actual £19,200

Location: The college has two bases in Headingley, Leeds where the successful candidate will be located. Occasional travel to other employer sites may be required. 

The job description below is not exhaustive, and it is expected that the post holder will undertake additional duties on occasion, within their capabilities. 

Job Purpose 

To be responsible for all aspects of human resources practices and processes and be the go-to person for all employee-related aspects of the college. 

Principal Responsibilities 

·Develop, implement and monitor HR strategies, policies, processes and procedures aligned with the overall college strategy. 

·Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management, including working with our appointed, external HR advisors and other professionals. 

·Provide support for the Staff, Student and Family (SSF) Trustee sub-committee, ensuring that appropriate reports are provided for meetings and minutes are shared in a timely manner, as well as over-seeing the resultant action plans.

·Gather and monitor appropriate staff-related metrics, providing reports to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the board of trustees. 

·Develop the talent acquisition process and manage the staff recruitment and selection process and ensure it meets the requirements of Safer Recruitment. To include: design and placing of job adverts; creating and managing the shortlisting process; setting up and supporting interview panels, ensuring appropriate paperwork is prepared for all panel members. 

·Design and implement comprehensive employee onboarding and induction process for all new starters to include an introduction to policies and procedures, as well as role specific activities. 

·Manage the college’s Continual Professional Development programme (CPD) including identifying the training & development needs of staff members and sourcing/providing access to appropriate solutions. 

·Ensure staff personal files are accurate and up-to-date at all times, including logging and monitoring of training records and managing staff attendance/absence/sickness. 

·Manage the Single Central Register (SCR) including ensuring all employees and employer buddies have up-to-date Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks. 

·Implement and manage performance appraisal systems and employee development programmes that drives high performance. 

·Assist with the preparation of gross salaries to submit to outsourced Payroll Bureau.

·Manage employee benefits scheme, including in-house benefits and those provided by external providers. 

·Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures as well as providing support to employees in various HR related topics such as booking leave. 

·Support current and future business needs through engaging, motivating and supporting staff and nurturing a positive working environment. 

·Implement the college’s mental health & wellbeing and other related strategies. 

·Ensure the college provides a happy and productive workplace where everyone works towards realising the established mission and objectives. 

·Help shape a positive culture that promotes corporate values.
