Castleford Park Junior Academy is part of the Castleford Academy Trust. Higher Level Teaching Assistant

31.25 hours, term time only

Monday to Friday 8:30am – 3:15pm

Grade 7 SCP 19-23, £31,067 to £33,366 (FTE)

Actual salary - £22,243 to £23,889

We have an exciting opportunity for a HLTA to join our existing team. This is to cover PPA and management time for teachers across our Junior School, teaching a range of lessons. This post would also be suitable for someone wanting to experience teaching in a school before embarking upon a teaching qualification. Our Academy would be happy to support you in this pathway, after gaining relevant experience.

You will be: 

  • Educated to GCSE standard with a minimum of grades A*-C or Grade 4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent. i.e., NVQ level 2 or similar.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent numeracy and literacy skills and standards.
  • A competent user of ICT.
  • Able to teach pupils using precise, clear modelling and giving relevant and supportive feedback.
  • Have experience of motivating, supporting and guiding young people; and helping them achieve their best and maintaining consistently high expectations.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively support the most vulnerable pupils to achieve.
  • Able to plan, resource and deliver lessons across a range of National Curriculum subjects.
  • Able to demonstrate successful experience as a teaching assistant, or supporting learners to improve.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of child development, learning processes and ways to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Able to demonstrate positive and efficient behaviour management strategies to organise and teach groups and classes of learners.
  • Responsible for the class that you teach – ensuring you understand their medical needs, safeguarding needs and can correspond with parents in place of the class teacher where needed.

You will:

  • Become familiar with and utilise a range of classroom strategies and diagnostic assessments to aid learning.
  • Be supported to acquire a working knowledge of the National Curriculum across Key Stage Two.
  • Required to provide feedback to teachers after planned activities that reflect on the achievement of the children you have worked with.
  • Report any potential child protection issues through to the child protection officer without delay.
  • Support the Academy in ensuring the safety and welfare of all pupils.
  • Be given opportunities to build on your own skills through in house and external professional development opportunities.
  • Be listened to and your ideas will be valued by the team.
