We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our Street Lighting team.

The Street Lighting team has overall responsibility for 52,000 streetlights as well as signs and other street furniture across its network of streets, developing strategies and plans to ensure that the street lighting asset is managed as effectively as possible to meet the needs of our communities and the council’s priority of delivery jobs and growth.

We are looking for a Group Engineer who already has:

  • An appropriate professional or academic qualification which related to the skills and abilities required for the post or the ability to demonstrate significant experience.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of budget preparation and financial management and control.
  • Experience of providing effective leadership alongside team management and development.
  • You will need a full and valid driving licence, and a willingness to carry out a Kirklees Driver Assessment.

Your key responsibilities and duties will be to:

  • Manage and monitor Capital and Revenue expenditure and programmes including preparation of Cabinet reports to support your Operational Manager.
  • Undertake and support Principal Engineers in project/ programme management, including preparation of technical and financial reports to ensure all programmes/projects are appropriately approved and authorised.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with required procedures and performance; review, propose and implement all relevant existing and new strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Manage, support, and advise your teams as they analyse and monitor data from a variety of sources and from that, you will maintain an effective and efficient level of service in street lighting
  • Lead on the delivery of key changes within the service.
  • Supervise and mentor others who need experience in CDM, Health and Safety legislation and good practice.
  • Lead on the changes to procurement frameworks /procurement arrangements, to ensure adequate provision is in place for delivery of the Highway Capital Plan.
  • Lead/represent Kirklees at a local, regional and national basis on street lighting related project/programmes.
