Hours will be completed between 8.45 – 4.15pm depending on the needs of the young people.

Welcome to our school,

Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 4 sites: our main site 2 partnership sites at Windmill Primary and Rodillian Secondary and a specialist Post 16 college at White Rose Business Park. The SILC is based in the South of Leeds and caters for a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs; Autism and social and emotional and mental health needs. Some students have additional needs – physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment. We are a very popular choice for parents and carers and currently have 287 pupils on roll.

Broomfield secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted in March 2023 where inspectors commented that leaders have ‘high ambitions’ and ‘high aspirations for all pupils’ and that ‘staff are proud to work in our school’. We are very proud of our school community where staff are committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential and prepare them fully for their future, particularly focusing on communication, independence, and emotional regulation.

We have an exciting opportunity for full time permanent HLTA position as Inreach Education Support Worker Co-ordinator. The roles are suitable for candidates who have experience working with Autistic people with complex communication needs and SEMH. Candidates who have experience in education, health, adult services and social care will be considered for this role.

Job description

Role:

The role of the Education Support Worker Co-ordinator will be integral in the co-ordinating the day to day operational delivery of the Inreach programme.

You will be responsible for ensuring the day to day provision working alongside the Inreach Teacher, HLTA and Education Support Workers to ensure the EHCP needs of the young people are met and contribute to improving the quality of life for these young people.

Requirements:

  • The Education Support Worker Co-ordinator should have extensive experience and proven track record of working with either young people or adults with Complex Autism, communication needs and SEMH.
  • Experience working in the care, education and or health sector would be beneficial.
  • The Education Support Worker Co-ordinator will have received training in a related field however a full training package will be offered to all.
  • Possession of a driving licence (minimum one year) is essential.
  • Ability to lead and work flexibly as part of a team to meet the needs of the young people.
  • Ability to deliver personalised provision understanding and putting in place advice and recommendations from the Multi-Disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working as part of a safeguarding team would be an advantage
  • Experience of managing or leading other people day to day such as deployment, resourcing and supervising.
  • Experience of completing risk assessments, budgeting and producing reports.
  • Experience of working with families and carers would be an advantage.

Across school we have a “learner centred” approach. We have a holistic approach to teaching young people, helping them wherever possible with challenges that life may throw at them. We have an “all hands on deck” approach, so when you are not fulfilling the elements of your co-ordinator role, you may be asked to assist in other areas as directed. All the duties outlined are carried out under the general direction of SLT.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the Teacher Responsible for Inreach and Education Support Workers to deliver the Inreach provision of Broomfield South SILC.
  • The successful applicant will ensure the day to day running of the Inreach provision in line with the plans set out by the Multi-Agency Team supporting a number of our young people at home and in the comm
  • unity, such as: forward planning timetables to support day to day working.
  • To enable the young people on a daily basis to access our provision of specialist services and to support, empower and encourage them to progress and gain skills that lead to increased independence using the Inreach curriculum.
  • To act as Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) with responsibility for Inreach students closely working with the DSL and Pupil Welfare team.
  • To be responsible for safeguarding all pupils and promoting their welfare by adhering to all child protection procedures.
  • To ensure all young people’s files, reviews, paperwork etc. are up to date.
  • When necessary to support the Education Support Workers to deliver and further develop our young peoples skills in communication, interaction and social behavior for a readiness to learn. Such as covering for absence.
  • To provide support both in person and through completion of all risk assessments and educational visit forms to young people outside of Broomfield premises including in the home, outings, group social outings (such as community venues, leisure centres, parks and libraries.)
  • To constantly be aware of and be flexible in meeting the needs of our young people.
  • Create opportunities for members to gain new experiences or practice the skills they possess or are in the process of learning.
  • To attend and contribute to meetings and discussions, such as: group supervision.
  • Support the staff team to identify and assess difficulties and behaviours and agree constructive solutions to problems in partnership with the young people and other staff.
  • To implement all school policies and procedures to the highest possible standards.
  • To conduct yourself in a professional, discreet yet sensitive and friendly manner.
  • To learn and understand more about Autism Spectrum Conditions, DDP and Trauma Informed practice and utilise organisation’s working practices and strategies, ensuring the best possible approach and outcomes for each individual.
  • Complete any designated training to support your role and implement CPD taken.

Co-ordination

  • When required support the recruitment of staff, maintaining the required staffing levels for young peoples support.
  • Hold regular team meetings, lead and support effective teamwork
  • Work within a budget set by the Teacher Responsible , maintaining and recording all required financial information
  • To at all times model good communication implementing systems that maintain effective relationships and promote good practice.
  • To reinforce appropriate behaviours and be a role model to the individuals we support following the schools Positive Behaviour Policy and Emergency Care and Control.
  • Continuously develop your own leadership style, being a positive role model for the team and wider colleagues.
  • To analyse information and dynamically risk assess situations and take appropriate action seeking advice where necessary.
  • To provide written online reports, carry out administrative tasks and update young peoples key information such as All About Me and BIPRA. Maintaining young peoples confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR.

Any Special Conditions of Service:

There is a requirement to submit to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau background check. Term time working. There may be a need to occasionally work outside of school hours and off school premises, as required by the school. No smoking policy.
