Job title and organisation: Deputy Headteacher - Valley View Community Primary School
Salary: L11 – L15
Hours: 32.5 per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Valley View Community Primary School, Coal Hill Drive, Rodley, Leeds LS13 1DD
Closing Date and Time: Friday 1 May 2026 at 1.00pm

The best things in life are sometimes worth waiting for and we are delighted to be recruiting now for a Deputy Headteacher at Valley View School. Recent discussions at our Governing Board have highlighted that we are now totally convinced that this is the right time to invest funds into this key person for the school’s next chapter. (Anyone who may have expressed interest in Spring 2025 should be reassured that the school is now in a very different situation). We know that the right person is still waiting to join our successful and thriving school.

As we continue to move forward in an evolving educational landscape, this new role represents an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational leader to help shape the next chapter of our story. We are seeking a professional partner who will work closely with the Headteacher to support all members of our school community, recognising both the challenges and the rich potential within education today.

We are looking for an experienced fulltime school leader who brings strong leadership skills, regardless of specific previous areas of responsibility. While initial priorities may include improving standards in teaching and learning and leading on behaviour and attendance; the ability to lead confidently, demonstrating excellent teaching and learning skills, building trust, and promoting collaboration across the school community are also key. We are looking for someone who brings authenticity, empathy, professional curiosity and a commitment to developing positive relationships with pupils, families and staff.

The successful candidate will join our leadership team and will play a crucial role in continuing to embed a culture where children thrive. We hope you will bring new ideas and initiatives, a supportive and encouraging personality, and the ability to quickly understand the development needs of our community.

Our school is known as a caring hub of learning where “pupils flourish” (Ofsted October 2024.) We are a community school with a family ethos, where children and staff are supported to achieve their potential. Our vision statement is “Enjoying, Achieving and Learning together” and this vision applies to everyone in our school community. We have a strong reputation for high expectations, an aspirational curriculum for both personal and academic achievement and exceptionally strong relationships with the whole school community. Our Forest School provision and the creative use of our generous outdoor spaces are examples of our continuous drive for innovation to enable our children to succeed.

Our Deputy Headteacher will have a regular teaching commitment and will be expected to lead and have experience across the full primary age range. We hope that this post will not be your first experience of leading a range of different teams in a school setting and that you will be a strong role model for others.

This post is open to all leaders and aspiring leaders who have passion for education, and the skills and dedication to develop others. We hope to see from your application form concrete examples of your strategic thinking. Candidates should refer to the person specification and job description for further information.

Please see the recruitment pack on our website which includes more information about our school, job description and person specification for this role and how to apply. Visits to the school are essential for you to feel our ethos and values. We would request that appointments are made through the school office on 0113 255 4972 or by email at office@valleyviewschool.org.uk

The school is committed to keeping children safe and will stringently follow procedures to endorse this.

The closing date for applications is: 1.00pm on Friday 1st May 2026

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check against the Children’s barred list will be carried out on preferred candidates. Read our recruitment of ex-offenders policy.

We welcome applications from everyone and actively seek a diverse range of applicants from all backgrounds and cultures. We particularly encourage applications from, but not limited to, women, carers, veterans as well as LGBT+, ethnically diverse, disabled and care experienced people.

This role is based in the UK. Home Office guidance states that candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK prior to commencing employment, either as a UK or Irish citizen, under the EU Settlement scheme or having secured any other relevant work visa.

If you do not have the right to work in the UK, you must consider your own eligibility for sponsorship for a particular role through the Skilled Worker visa  route before applying. To be eligible for sponsorship you'll usually need to be paid the standard salary rate of at least £41,700 per year or meet one of the other eligibility criteria. Please ensure you are eligible before applying.
