As a Breeze Event Worker you’ll have the opportunity to work on exciting events and activities for children, young people and families. We are looking for friendly, passionate people to join our team of casual staff to support the running of Halloween and The Christmas Experience at Lotherton Hall.

We require staff who have a variety of skills and experience working with children and their families to ensure they have a fun and magical experience, we offer a variety of roles from event site staff, performers and entertainers, and delivering arts and crafts with young people therefore people with some of the following experience:

  • Actors, performers or entertainers
  • Worked with children with arts and crafts
  • Practically minded, problem solving and able to work outdoors in all weathers

About you

As a Breeze Event Worker, you will bring to the role:

  • Experience of working with young people or families
  • Experience of working within a team setting
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young people to participate in arts, crafts, and cultural activities.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people individually and in groups and at all appropriate levels.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour.

About the role 

The Breeze Event Worker role, is a casual role. You will be added into our casual staffing pool and contacted when we have events running – this round of recruitment will be focused on events the team run at Halloween and Christmas. 

Halloween – a scare event for young people aged 8-15yrs old. We have various roles from walkabout scare actors to themed characters that fit with the storyline of the event itself. We are looking for confident and outgoing people who would be comfortable working in the dark. This event will run from Friday 25th Oct to Thurs 31st Oct in the evenings. 

Christmas – a bigger scale event running from Sat 23rd Nov to Tues 24th Dec 2024. There are several roles to recruit for working in various parts of the event. We have the North Pole where our Santa is located, in this area we are looking for group elves, craft elves, and Santa elves. The Elf Village where children and families can take part in Christmas crafts, in our Christmas cabins with more of our craft elves. We also have elves located in the house working alongside Mrs Claus welcoming families into the house and assisting with the decorating of gingerbread people. 

We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing and bubbly people to play elves in all areas mentioned above, people who can make sure the families visiting have the most magical experience.

Job purpose

Responsibilities  

  • To assist in the delivery of Halloween & Christmas events at Lotherton 
  • To work with and build relationships with young people while in character and encourage them to participate in arts, crafts, and the experience in general as a whole.
  • To work as part of a team
  • To report to and liaise with the Breeze Team and other nominated staff. 
  • To assist with administrative tasks to support programme delivery eg checking tickets, answering visitor queries, and stock checking 
  • To assist with the physical build of infrastructure at the events. 
  • To supervise young people’s safe use of equipment and engagement with activities 
  • To carry out the above duties in compliance with Council policies including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Health and safety and where appropriate, National Governing Body Codes of Conduct

Qualifications 

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

  • Ability to establish relationships and maintain dialogue with young people and families. 
  • Ability to identify and respond to the needs of young people. 
  • Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour. 
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people individually and in groups and at all appropriate levels. 
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young people to participate in arts, crafts and cultural activities. 
  • Ability to set up and take down areas and equipment to deliver young people’s activities and events. 
  • Understanding of a range of differing approaches to Youth provision. 
  • Knowledge of issues affecting young people. 
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues in relation to young people 
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and data protection 
  • Knowledge of Risk assessments and health and safety guidelines 
  • Experience of working with young people 
  • Experience of working within a team setting 
  • Experience of supervising people in a voluntary or paid position

Desirable requirements It is desirable that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post.  Candidates are not required to meet all the desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between candidates. 

  • First Aid qualification 
  • Level 1 or 2 qualification in working with young people. 
  • Relevant qualifications in the arts - performance, theatre, music etc. 
  • Experience of working in a performance/theatre setting (indoor/outdoor) 
  • Experience of working at a Halloween/Scare event. 
  • Experience of working at a Christmas event.
