The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a 2-19 generic special school with 447 learners on roll. All our learners have special learning needs and some have physical/ medical difficulties. The East SILC is a complex organisation which operates on a variety of sites to provide a range of outreach services across the city, including partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city-wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service including a moving and handling service, as well as the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.

We are looking for Level 1 Teaching Assistants to join our growing team of bank staff to cover staffing shortfalls, pre-arranged absences and support as and when required. The Teaching Assistant bank staff are casual contract members of our school community that can be contacted to provide support on an ad hoc basis supporting in a range of classes. We will only contact you for work on the days that you tell us you are available.

These casual roles could be based at one of our main sites; John Jamieson, Roger Cannon, Jack Clark or at one of our partnership sites; Temple Moor High School or The Bridge Community Centre. Currently we have learners with a wide range of SEND including; moderate or severe learning difficulties, physical and/or medical needs, hearing and/or visual impairments, communication and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs and autism. 

You must be:

  • Available for full days 8.45am-3.30pm on day(s) between Monday to Friday.
  • Have skills and enthusiasm, plus a willingness to learn, support teaching and learning and address the personal needs of our learners.
  • Flexible and adaptable, a good communicator, cheerful, calm and be able to work as part of our team. 

The East SILC has a progressive staffing structure in place for teaching assistants which is supported by Continual Professional Development. A thorough induction process is in place and ongoing training provided.
