About the role
The children, staff and governors of Manston Primary School are seeking to appoint an ambitious and highly effective Assistant Head Teacher to join our leadership team and contribute to the continued success of our school.
This appointment offers flexibility for the right candidate. The start date and specific leadership responsibilities can be agreed to support a smooth transition and to ensure we appoint an excellent teacher who shares our values and ambition.
This is a full-time role with a 0.8 teaching commitment. The year group taught will be flexible year-on-year, but the post holder will hold responsibility for Key Stage 1 and Early Years, working closely with the support of the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher. Dedicated and protected leadership time is built into the role.
Alongside phase leadership, the role offers whole-school influence, particularly through curriculum development and English, supporting strong progression from Early Years through to Key Stage 2.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Be an outstanding classroom practitioner who models high-quality teaching and learning.
- Support and contribute to the leadership of Key Stage 1 and Early Years, working with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacherto strengthen consistency, progression and outcomes.
- Ideally lead Englishacross the school, or develop into this role with support, depending on experience.
- Work closely with the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and senior leaders to drive whole-school improvement.
- Contribute to day-to-day leadership and management decisions.
- Support, coach and develop colleagues through collaboration and professional dialogue.
The precise balance/nature of leadership responsibilities will be shaped around the strengths and experience of the successful candidate, with structured support and coaching from the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a teacher who:
- Is an excellent and reflective classroom practitioner, first and foremost.
- Has strong knowledge of teaching and learning within KS1 and/or Early Years.
- Has experience of subject leadership or aspires to develop leadership capacity.
- Has a strong interest in English leadership (a preference, not a requirement).
- Demonstrates high expectations, warmth and a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding.
- Communicates effectively with pupils, staff, parents and external professionals.

- an experienced leaderwho wishes to remain firmly rooted in classroom practice.
