As the Age Group Diving coach you will thrive on working with a large number of coaches and athletes helping them to be reach their full potential. Assist the Head Diving Coach in effective delivery of Leeds City Council Diving Training Scheme, playing an active role in the development of the Leeds City Council Learn to Dive programme and its links to the Diving Training Scheme. Leading on Talent identification Strategies for Leeds City Council Diving Training Scheme maximising talent identification membership growth. Mentoring scheme coaches in the delivery of Diving Training Scheme. Working with the Head Diving Coach in educating staff in elite, competitive and learn to dive diving frameworks.

About you

As a Age Group Diving Coach, you will bring to the role:

  • The ability to assist the Head Diving Coach in the development , management and monitoring of a successful Diving Programme and provide feedback
  • Ability to facilitate effective relationships with governing bodies of sport and promote key partners for the development of diving
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, to secure commitment from others
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the GB Aquatics, Swim England pathways, and diving development pathways including TID
  • Swim England Diving Level 2 qualification or equivalent

About the role

Leeds City Council, is dedicated to promoting aquatics in Leeds, working closely with the City of Leeds Diving club. Leeds City Council Dive Training Scheme is one of the most successful diving programmes in Great Britain, consistently producing athlete’s at all levels of Swim England and Aquatics GB pathways. Since 2000, Leeds has a proud history of divers qualifying for every Olympic Games, consistently producing junior international athletes also. We are now seeking to hire an Age Group Coach to assist with the training scheme at all levels and to help sustain the success of Diving in the City.

The diving programme offers children a chance to participate in the Learn to Dive program while collaborating with schools to identify future talent in the area. Our framework is designed to support divers through both the Learn to Dive program and the Dive Training Scheme, enabling them to compete at regional, national, and international levels.

The role is integral to our Diving team, the successful candidate will be required to work with the wider Aquatics performance teams in swimming, and artistic swimming and other key stakeholders within the Active Leeds service. Building strong relationships with centre management and staff will be a key part of the role to continue building the diving pathway within the wider Aquatics programme. The successful candidate will assist the head coach in line managing a team of contracted staff that work across all levels of the diving scheme.

Job Description 

Job Purpose

To assist the Head Diving Coach in effective delivery of Leeds City Council Diving Training Scheme.

To play an active role in the development of the Leeds City Council Learn to Dive programme and its links to the Diving Training Scheme

To Lead and deliver on Talent identification Strategies for Leeds City Council Diving Training Scheme.

To co-ordinate training plans, mentoring scheme coaches in the delivery of Diving Training Scheme.

To work with the Head Diving Coach in educating staff in elite, competitive and learn to dive diving frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • To deputise in the absence of the Head Diving Coach and to cover/help coach performance athletes outside of set coaching hours at short notice and planned absence.
  • To regularly liaise and interact with the Head Diving Coach in the successful delivery of the Scheme.
  • To assist the Head Coach in working with the GB Aquatics and Swim England to further enhance diving in Leeds.
  • To work with and monitor all squads within the Diving Training Scheme.
  • To work with the Head Coach in recruitment and development of coaching & support staff.
  • To assist the Head Diving Coach with the management and coordination of the Diving Training Scheme and Learn to Dive Programme
  • To work in collaboration with John Charles Centre for Sport, Aquatics staff in the planning and delivery of Diving holiday programme strategies.
  • To undertake administrative duties in connection with the Learn to Dive Programme.
  • Continue to develop links within the Leeds City Council leisure centre facilities to promote more Learn To Dive sessions around the city.
  • To maintain links within the Aquatic pathways, Learn to Swim and training schemes, attending service meetings in accordance with promoting Diving and the Aquatics training schemes within the City.
  • To build and maintain professional links with Gymnastics within the city to enhance the talent and performance pathway.
  • To plan and deliver an annual School Talent Identification programme that increases recruitment of members within the training scheme, increasing financial revenue.
  • To plan and deliver a Virtual talent pathway in collaboration with Swim England.
  • To plan and deliver the Talent Games trial in collaboration with Swim England North East.
  • To monitor the activities of all identified talent through weekly training, assessments and events
  • To mentor and work with Scheme coaches to maintain a high standard of coaching delivery.
  • To monitor and evaluate the content and delivery of the talent pathway within the Diving Training Scheme and implement strategies that will enhance the performance of the training scheme divers.
  • To mentor coaches in their respective area of the pathway, providing specific methods of training and practice methodology to improve knowledge and skill base of staff.
  • To assist the Head coach in the delivery of technical coaching workshops.
  • To maintain records and related administration in connection with the role of managing the development programme.
  • To maintain effective channels of communication between the Diving Training Scheme and relevant partners including the City of Leeds Diving Club, parents, facility management and administrators.
  • To effectively administer appropriate budgets in accordance with Leeds City Council’s Financial Regulations.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies including the Safeguarding of Young People and Vulnerable Adults, Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.

Qualifications

  • ASA Level 2 Coaching Diving or equivalent

Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria. Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the essential requirements.

  • The ability to set, manage and monitor a progressive Learn to Dive programme linked to the Swim England National Plan for Swimming
  • Ability to coach at all levels of the pathway
  • Able to plan and deliver Talent Identification strategies
  • The ability to deliver a service which consistently meets quality customer service standards
  • The ability to assist the Head Diving Coach in the development, management and monitoring of a successful Diving Programme and provide feedback
  • Ability to facilitate effective relationships with governing bodies of sport and promote key partners for the development of diving
  • Able to motivate and train/educate staff
  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of individuals and organisations
  • Able to research, present proposals and reports for the development of a Diving Training Programme
  • Ability to be numerate and work with figures and statistics.
  • Ability to use computer systems
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, to secure commitment from others
  • Ability to contribute to service decision making and development
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the GB Aquatics and Swim England pathways
  • Swim England Diving Level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • Understanding and evidence of working with partners
  • Knowledge of diving development pathways including TID
  • Experience of diving coaching at a national level
  • Experience of prioritising projects/work to meet tight deadlines, multi-tasking as appropriate
  • Experience of working in collaboration/delivering a Learn to Dive programme
  • Experience of delivering a schools based Talent TID programme
  • Experience of the GB diving pathway
  • Experience in working off own initiative.
  • Experience in understanding diving numbers and degree of difficulty of dives
  • Experience of Diving coaching at skills and age group level
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team of diving coaches
  • Can work unsociable hours and weekends
