As an Active Leeds Development Officer (Falls and Frailty), you’ll thrive on developing and supporting older people across Leeds to move more. Working closely with Adults and Health Services, you and your team will focus on delivering the Falls Prevention Programme that is an important intervention in delivering the vision for Active Leeds, “Leeds to be the best city in the UK to be active in.”

About you

As the Active Leeds Development Officer (Falls and Frailty), you will bring to the role:

  • Hold a relevant qualification in physical activity, sport or health.
  • Ability to collaborate across several stakeholders and create positive partnerships.
  • An understanding of long-term health conditions and the impact of frailty in older populations.
  • Experience of developing health programmes for older people with the aim to increase physical activity, to support self-management and help prevent social isolation.
  • Ability to work with complex information from various sources to effectively monitor programmes and support with their evaluations.

About the role

This exciting and challenging role requires the ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and understand how to put theory into practice. You will be working in communities across Leeds supporting older people and partners working in those communities to increase their skills and knowledge of the benefits of moving more, especially the need to maintain strength and balance as we age. This role is integral to the Active Leeds, Health Programmes Team and you will be involved in supporting and developing a range of physical activity and exercise interventions funded by the NHS.

Job Description 

Job Purpose

Working as part of a citywide team you will contribute towards the City’s ambition of making Leeds the most active big city, ensuring links to relevant local, national and key partner strategies, plans and priorities. The role will focus on areas of deprivation and need where health inequalities are greatest and on population groups that are less active e.g. girls and women, lower socio-economic groups, BEM, people with a disability and older people.

Partnership working is an essential part of the role. Working across communities and local stakeholder to ensure access to physical activity and provide sustainable models of delivery using asset-based community development.

The role will use relevant insight and intelligence to provide a clear evidence base for programmes of work and understand behaviour change models and their application. This includes providing evidence of the increases in participation and how being active / engagement in sport can contribute to wider outcomes such health, economic and social benefits.

Responsibilities

  • To develop strong and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, partners and other relevant organisations to develop opportunities to increase levels of activity
  • To work collaboratively with relevant partners around joint planning / shared objectives; facilitating and coordinating others to engage with the inactive
  • To use relevant local and national research, insight and knowledge to develop successful interventions / programmes of work 
  • To embed models of behaviour, change in any interventions / programmes of work
  • To produce, deliver and evaluate a measurable annual work programme utilising relevant Management Information Systems
  • To establish effective communication mechanisms with relevant stakeholders, partners and community organisations
  • To adopt a community development approach supporting key partners, organisations and groups to develop sustainable models of delivery within local communities
  • To work with elected members, service users and community representatives in ways which support open, inclusive, responsive and accountable government.
  • Working as a team for Leeds by developing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external customers, other stakeholders and partners to achieve excellent outcomes for the citizens of Leeds.
  • To be accountable for the safety of staff, service users and contractors in accordance with Legislation and the Council Health and Safety Policy.
  • To provide appropriate information relating to the work of the Service to Members and council officers so as to manage risk and support them in their respective roles.
  • To be actively involved in effectively preparing and managing budgets and take responsibility where appropriate for assigned budgets.
  • As an officer in the Council to work flexibly as required to meet Directorate and Corporate priorities
  • To deputise as appropriate and contribute to the development of the service.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies including the Safeguarding of Young People and Vulnerable Adults, Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualifications.

Desirable

Holds CIMSPA endorsed fitness qualifications at Level 3 and be able to deliver group activities and one to one support.

Ability to gain a Level 4 Postural Stability qualification within the first 6 months of employment.
