In Shared Services our common goal is to develop and deliver modern, efficient services to support our Best City Ambition. This is our overarching vision for Leeds, and every day in Shared Services we enable the delivery of essential and statutory services for people throughout the city.
Shared Services is a great entry route into a career with Leeds City Council, with services which include:
- Contact Centre – handles about 1.4 million calls and 130,000 emails per year from the public regarding council services such as adult and children’s social care, welfare support, housing, council tax, benefits, school admissions, registrars, elections, highways and environmental services
- Business Administration Service - provides complex administration support across a wide range of departments and statutory services, such as for children and families, adults and health, and environmental services
- Business Support Centre – provides HR administration, payroll, pensions and payment services to council departments and many Leeds schools, along with teams handling the community and schools lettings, the incoming and outgoing mail, records management, print and signs production.
Across our teams we offer a distinct career pathway, with opportunities to progress from roles such as administration assistant and customer service officer to supervisor, team leader and manager. We also recruit to some specific technical roles involving payroll administration, service development and projects.
We have a clear focus on employee wellbeing and development. Subject to operational needs, we accommodate hybrid working arrangements with a mix of home and office-based working.
Our team ethos is that we are about much more than administration; our colleagues are doing their best every day to make a difference across Leeds.
Our colleagues say:
Stephanie, Team Leader
“It was daunting joining the council after 24 years in another organisation, but I haven’t looked back. I’m proud to say that the teamwork I have seen has been exceptional. Everyone is encouraged to share ideas and find solutions, and we support each other to get the job done in a timely manner.”
Sarfraz, Customer Service Support Officer
“This is by far the best work environment I’ve experienced. My colleagues are all supportive and senior management are approachable and visible. I’ve never felt restricted working at the council and have been able to develop and change roles when opportunities arise.”
