Our team’s remit spans sport and leisure, as well as management of the city centre and the iconic Kirkgate Market. Everything we do underpins plans for health and wellbeing and economic development.

Our mission
We are dedicated to enabling active, thriving communities and a vibrant city centre, where residents, workers and visitors can enjoy positive experiences and great events.
The Active Leeds team is passionate about getting people moving more and being active in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. We are continually investing in the council’s wellbeing and leisure centres by improving buildings and facilities and developing new activity programmes.
Recent ambitious programmes such as the Kirkgate Market Strategy and Leeds: Our Spaces Strategy have delivered multi-million pound investments in the city centre, including creating new green spaces, upgrading the market hall and promoting events.
We have many more projects underway to develop the best facilities and events for everyone in the city. In the pipeline are a new city centre gym and hotel within the market, activities along the waterfront, art installations and further upgrades to leisure centres.
