Children's social work

We work with families and communities to protect children’s welfare, supporting them to live safely at home or looked after in residential or foster care.

We want Leeds to be the best city to grow up in for all our children and young people. Our children’s social work team welcomes colleagues who share this ambition and are motivated by working with families to achieve sustainable outcomes through ongoing support and dialogue.

Leeds is a large, vibrant city with a great diversity of communities, including some areas of significant deprivation. We are looking for social work professionals from all backgrounds and levels of experience, who can commit to our culture of restorative practice and family decision-making.

You will be joining an experienced and dedicated social work team which:

We provide comprehensive support and training packages at all levels with clear career progression opportunities. Our stable and supportive management team offers continuous guidance and reflective supervision allowing you to grow and develop throughout your career.

Whether you are newly qualified or have worked in children’s social work for some years, there are opportunities across the city. Vacancies may arise in:

  • locality teams (assessment, child in need, child protection and court work)
  • children looked after service
  • front door (duty and advice)
  • child health and disability service

Our colleagues say:

Aimee, Team Manager, Children’s Social Work

"I loved my previous job in a children’s centre and the children’s social workers there inspired me to get my social work degree. What makes my job worthwhile is knowing I’ve advocated and done my best to help a vulnerable child. It’s a privileged and rewarding career with excellent training and development to bring you opportunities and progression."

Joe, Newly Qualified Social Worker

"I wanted to make a difference in my career. Social work keeps me connected to my community and I feel my role has a positive and meaningful impact. Leeds is a large city and we know our diverse communities, their strengths and challenges. I’m proud of our service's clear values and commitment to building supportive relationships with families."
