About the role

As an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Project Officer you’ll thrive on the promotion Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and present continuous dedication to the subject. You will contribute to the delivery of the council’s EDI agenda against the vision and action plan and support the governance of the EDI agenda through customer service, project management and administrative support.

As an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Project Officer, you will bring to the role:

  • Ability to develop productive working relationships that command respect, trust, and confidence. 
  • Experience of managing and contributing to a variety of projects relating to transformation and service improvement, and delivering them on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards and reporting through appropriate governance structures. 
  • Experience of working on complicated and challenging agendas where a range of stakeholders may have competing priorities and negotiating the best way forward.
  • Understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion including legislation and policy. 
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and develop staff where required on the equality agenda across the council.

Job Description

Job purpose 

  • To contribute to the delivery of the council’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) agenda against the vision and action plan.  
  • To support the governance of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda through customer service, project management and administrative support.  
  • To assist Elected Members deliver support to the EDI agenda. 
  • To support the council’s external facing engagement around EDI including through the council’s Equality Assembly and Hubs and other working groups. 
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with a range of partners on the EDI agenda. 
  • To support the council’s performance reporting and governance processes against EDI. 
  • To develop and support the council’s communication of the EDI agenda both internally and externally. 
  • To support the delivery of a range of celebratory and awareness raising activities throughout the year on the EDI agenda. 
  • To enable Safer Stronger Communities to deliver major service improvements with our partners and other Council services. 
  • To ensure that team objectives are delivered on time, within budget and to expected levels of quality. 

Responsibilities  

  • To manage the financial monitoring of the Equality and Hate Crime Team budget. 
  • To supervise the ordering and requisition of goods and services for the team, maintaining budgetary records, expenditure details and information relating to purchases and orders 
  • To manage the Equality and Hate Crime Teams email inboxes and to support the teams social media accounts. To be responsible for the teams main public facing telephone number. 
  • To ensure that all the Equality and Hate Crime Teams events, meetings and communications are accessible. 
  • To take minutes for a range of public facing and internal meetings with partners and other council services.
  • To produce and monitor forward plans and action trackers for these meetings.
  • To ensure the administration of these meetings is organised and timely including venues and speakers. 
  • To ensure that there is a forward plan of all meetings and events for the year ahead and manage in year diary requirements.  
  • To ensure appropriate risk management of all team events. 
  • To take a lead on the logistics of events management. 
  • To assist the identification, monitoring, tracking and capturing of the outcomes and benefits of team events, projects and working groups and produce performance reports as required. 
  • To assist in the preparation of briefings, reports, publicity and other materials, and the presentation of these in ways that meet the needs of different audiences. 
  • To ensure appropriate support for Elected Members working on the EDI agenda. 
  • To maintain relationships with key partners. 
  • To take a lead on supporting one of the workstreams around the protected characteristics. 
  • To undertake line management as required. 
  • To manage competing priorities, ensuring consistency of approach with a key focus on delivery and quality. 
  • To keep abreast of developments, internal and external, which have implications for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Safer Leeds, and the wider Council. 
  • To carry out all assignments with minimum direct supervision and in accordance with specified work programmes, project briefs, and timetables. 
  • To maintain a high level of confidentiality. 
  • To work within all relevant policies, procedures and systems established corporately by the Council or locally by Safer Stronger Communities and, in particular, to support the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policies. 
  • To carry out duties in accordance with the Council Values and Culture. 
  • All other duties considered commensurate with the post. 

Qualifications

  • Experience of working on or understanding of the equality agenda. 
  • Experience of managing and contributing to a variety of projects relating to transformation and service improvement, and delivering them on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards and reporting through appropriate governance structures. 
  • Experience of database systems, analysis and reporting. 
  • Experience of identifying and managing risks associated with projects or programmes. 
  • Experience of leading or contributing to multiple projects and pieces of work, maintaining a focus on delivery and quality and adapting to changing circumstances and priorities. 
  • Experience of writing reports and delivering presentations to a very high standard. And communicating clearly with diverse audiences. 
  • Experience of delivering change through analysing current practice and recommending improvements. 
  • Experience of working on projects that have delivered customer focused outcomes. 
  • Experience of dealing with matters which are highly sensitive and confidential. 
  • Experience of taking forward initiatives from development to implementation. 
  • Experience of managing competing priorities whilst delivering on a range of projects and adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
