Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team, Communities & Environment

West//North West Team – Henshaw Depot

Monday – Friday 37 hours


An exciting frontline street cleansing role within the Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team - Environmental Action Operatives work as part of a zonal team which contributes towards achieving the outcome of clean streets and neighbourhoods. You will be expected to carry out a number of street cleansing functions including litter picking, fly tip removal and garden maintenance.

The job description and specification will provide you with more detail about the job, but we want people who are can:-

  • Empty/re-bag and clean litter bins and liners and to effectively dispose of/or collect full white litter bags/liners
  • Remove fly-tipped and bulky item materials as directed and safely load these onto the collection vehicle where required.
  • Carry out basic clearing and gardening as required
  • Work effectively with Council and other public service colleagues in order to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and quality within local environments
  • Undergo relevant training and development e.g. on the job or training courses. This will include training relating to the use of power tools, handling of hazardous materials and other health and safety issues.
  • Undertake all work in accordance in line with health and safety procedures and to report defects or safety concerns identified to the appropriate supervisor/manager.
  • Be friendly and customer focused

The vacancies are spread across the City. You would be allocated to one of the three Cleaner Neighbourhood Teams, based in West - Henshaw depot or Kirkstall Road, East - Seacroft depot or South - Cross Green, but could also be expected to work from zonal bases throughout the City.
