DEPARTMENT: The Rookery (residential care setting)

REPORTING TO: Manager

We are looking for some exceptional Care Workers to join our team as bank staff. The Rookery is a residential home for people with learning disabilities. Leeds Mencap will be closing the Rookery over the next six months. We need some additional bank staff to support us through this process. We need you to bring energy and a supportive and sensitive approach to help support residents and fellow colleagues. You will have exceptional communication skills and will understand the importance of keeping continuity and consistency during a time of change. We will need you to be flexible in the hours you can work to help us continue to provide a high level of quality in the care we provide. In return you will have the reward of working in a warm, welcoming home with great colleagues. You will know that you are making a huge difference by joining us. Read what Carla says about her role and then give the Manager a call or email her to find out how to apply to join her.

‘I have been a bank worker at the rookery for 12 months. I find working flexible hours means that I am able to fit paid employment around college studies and supporting my family.

When I started the job I wasn’t sure of how much of a difference I could make to the residents by only working a couple of shifts a week. I have been amazed at how quickly I have built up good relationships with the residents and how I can help them to achieve their goals.

During my induction period I completed any training that I needed and was guided by the senior team so I understood my role and felt confident supporting the residents on a 1-1 basis. I support residents with trips to the theatre, cinema, bowling, meals out. I also support them at medical appointments. Another part of my duties means I support residents in their home with personal care needs and helping to improve their cooking, money and communication skills.

I find working at the Rookery very enjoyable and extremely rewarding.’

We will be accepting applications for these roles on a rolling basis. If you are interested in joining our team please give the Manager a call or email her to find out more.
