Leeds City Council is recruiting Shared Lives carers to provide care and support to adults and their carers.

•             Could you provide an adult who has care and support needs with respite or day support in an ordinary home setting in the community?

•             Could you support an adult to develop their skills, advance their independence and support their carer to have a break from their caring role?

•             Do you have a spare bedroom and are willing to share your home with the person you are caring for, on a temporary basis?

Shared Lives Leeds is looking for people who can provide support to adults with varying needs, including for example: people with physical or sensory impairments; adults with learning disabilities; older people – perhaps with a level of dementia; and people experiencing mental ill health.

You can work flexibly around your commitments and comprehensive training and support is provided in return for a rewarding role.

Previous experience is not necessary as each Shared Lives carer brings their own unique skills and experience to the job. We ask that you have a desire to help people, life experience and a commitment and positive approach to supporting vulnerable adults.

Being a Shared Lives Carer is a paid-for role:

Day-support is paid on an hourly rate and short-break carers are paid a fee for the support they provide. Short-break and day-support carers are classed as self-employed and will be expected to register with Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs (HMRC).

For further information, please call the Shared Lives team for an informal chat on: 0113 378 5410 or email shared.lives@leeds.gov.uk.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We promote diversity and want a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out on preferred candidates.
