We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed person with an interest in transport planning to work within the Transport Policy Group.

This full time 37 hours per week role will involve being part of a small team carrying out the installation, monitoring and maintenance of automatic traffic recording equipment for LCC and external clients in West and North Yorkshire, based at the LCC Transport Survey Team base at Pottery Fields. Any experience within this field would be desirable however full training will be given to the successful applicant.

All potential applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and be able to drive a transit style council vehicle.

Job Description

Job Purpose 

Undertake Transport Data collection to support Transport Policy development and Highway Schemes.  Installation, monitoring, and data downloading of automatic traffic counters for LCC and external clients in West and North Yorkshire. Data collection from and the ongoing maintenance of permanent traffic counter sites across all districts.

The post holder will be able to progress through the specified grades as experience, qualification and knowledge is gained. Support, guidance, and training will be given to the post holder to assist in effective delivery of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior survey staff to provide and establish specific survey locations and on-going daily works programme regarding the data collection and inspection of both temporary and permanent traffic recording sites.
  • To ensure sites are left secure and undertake inspections as necessary, along with the retrieval and data check prior to recovery of counter equipment.
  • To assist in the repair of cabinets, counters and loop connections on site where necessary.
  • Support and advise on installation of new sites by external contractors
  • To provide programme report as necessary, including completion of daily site reports, reporting on identifying occurrences which may impact on data results.
  • The identification of suitable survey methods for data collection to fulfil client instruction.
  • Awareness of co-ordinated street works notifications and implication on works programme.

  • Investigate and provide information to resolve requests, reports and complaints from all sources.

  • Plan routes and gather equipment for programmed work
  • Undertake risk assessments and decision on site location and appropriate equipment to use to record accurate data.

  • Be fully trained in the handling and safety of use of fastening power tools.
  • Working knowledge to undertake testing and regular maintenance of survey equipment, undertaking repairs where possible.
  • Working knowledge in the programming of traffic data recorders as per survey specifications.
  • Knowledge gained in the ability off the installation and set-up of video camera monitoring equipment to ensure data can be effectively measured.
  • Adapt to new survey technology, methods and equipment as it becomes available.
  • Experience of varied traffic survey work
  • Experience downloading of data to external database when required.
  • Experience in the installation of temporary traffic detection equipment on the live carriageway following appropriate safe working guidelines.
