Join Our Team as a Sports Coach and Relational Leader

Are you passionate about inspiring children through sport and play? Do you believe in the power of relationships to transform learning and behaviour? Castleton Primary School is seeking a dynamic, friendly, and professional Sports Coach and Relational Leader to join our dedicated team. This unique dual role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality physical education while supporting children’s social and emotional development through our school’s relational approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality P.E. sessions to primary-aged children, fostering physical literacy and teamwork.
  • Lead before, after-school, and lunchtime sports clubs tailored to fit around your working day.
  • Attend and support children at out-of-school sports events.
  • Actively participate in the school relational team, building strong, positive relationships with children.
  • Support vulnerable and dysregulated children through small group work using the school’s relational approach.
  • Embrace and promote the principles of Opal Play, using play as a foundation for learning, connection, and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and the wider community to promote children’s holistic development.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection at all times.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience delivering physical education or sports coaching to primary-aged children.
  • Understanding of the importance of play in child development, ideally with knowledge or experience of Opal Play principles.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children, particularly those who are vulnerable or dysregulated.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Professional, approachable, and passionate about supporting children’s growth both physically and emotionally.

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience working in a relational or trauma-informed setting.
  • Previous involvement in running extracurricular sports clubs or community events.
  • A proactive approach to reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Enthusiasm for contributing to a positive school culture centred on kindness, courage, and curiosity.
