Who we are & what we do…

  • A team of 30+ people, consisting of Technicians, Apprentices, Engineers and Managers.
  • Working with various Developers, Contractors and internal clients.
  • Delivering Highway schemes ranging from £20k to £100M.
  • Primarily based in Merrion House in the city centre, but also currently working in site offices in Dawson’s Corner, Lawnswood and the City Centre.

Job Description

Job purpose To manage a small group within a team of professional and technical staff undertaking feasibility design, detailed design and construction management of major highway and other civil engineering schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small group of staff engaged in feasibility, design and construction management of major highway and other civil engineering schemes.
  • To motivate, deelop and coach staff to achieve Corporate Plan, Service Plan and Divisional Plan objectives.
  • Promote and deliver positive solutions to achieving diversity and equality in all aspects of service delivery, community engagement areas, focusing on equality of outcome.
  • To be accountable for the safety of staff, service users and contractors in accordance with Legislation and the Council Health and Safety Policy.
  • An understanding of employees’ responsibility for health and safety.
  • Promote and deliver positive solutions to achieving diversity and equality in all aspects of delivery, community engagement areas, focusing on equality of outcomes.
  • Provide a high quality and cost effective engineering consultancy service to support the delivery of major highway and other engineering related schemes.
  • Support and assist in the development of policies which support efficient service delivery, continuous improvement and corporate objectives.
  • Represent the Service, the Department and the Council as a Senior Officer for matters relating to highway design and construction and other related areas of work.
  • Ensure schemes are delivered in accordance with the statutory requirements of the Construction Design Management Regulations (2015).
  • Ensure the work of the team is produced in accordance with legislation and to the appropriate local, national and corporate standards, policies and practices.
  • Experience of working within the framework of highway legislation and statutory procedures.
  • Assist in the development of partnership working.
  • Ensure that the work achieves high standards of urban design and contributes to the sustainability agenda.
  • Manage external consultants in the checking design and supervision of schemes.
  • To assist in preparing construction contracts, and to undertake contractual duties as required under NEC4 Suite of Contracts.
  • Undertake the role of Supervisor on construction contracts when required.
  • Active involvement in preparing, managing and controlling budgets.

Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent)
