Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation is run by its own tenants and based in the heart of our community in Belle Isle, South Leeds. Working closely with Leeds City Council, we are responsible for managing their housing and estate services in the Belle Isle neighbourhood, made up of about 1800 council homes.
We have got a mission – to build a safer, stronger and greener Belle Isle, and the Community Development Team play a big part in it.
The Community Development Team is here to work with the Board and volunteers to run the BITMO’s GATE community centre, which provides collective support to the community. This ranges from free meals to free school uniforms and winter coats to school holiday playschemes. The team provides individual and group support to the Belle Isle community – for example our IT support includes:
- helping someone with an online application
- showing them how to do their own housing bidding and then help others
- group classes where everyone learns together.
We are not just based in the community centre, we make connections with the other community centres and groups active in Belle Isle and go door-to-door consulting residents about ways to improve their environment and to build tenant control.
We are looking for a part-time Community Development Officer to work in a job-share arrangement for 2 full days per week (7.4 hours per day), ideally Thursdays and Fridays, but we can be flexible on the days agreed.
